Things that nobody tells you about hungry children in Israel
According to Israeli Humanitarian Aid’s report, almost one in every three children younger than age seven is facing poverty across the county. Some 36% of parents have reported that their children feel the lack of food and often skip meals to help their parents endure the financial crises, while almost 26% of children are reported coming to school without any lunch with them. Therefore, the need to support the hungry children of Israel is even getting stronger than ever before.
Unfortunately, the recent wave of recession and socio-economic crisis all over the world has left Israelis to fight with too many challenges on a daily basis. It can be really difficult for underprivileged families to support or feed their kids.
While the Israeli government has taken many reforms to assist those living under harsh conditions and below the poverty line, it is still not sufficient to support and feed all hungry children in Israel. Naturally, the Jewish community needs to step forward and help those who are in desperate need of our love, care, and generosity.
What statistics say about hungry children in Israel?
The fact that almost one-third of children are being sent to school without lunch and forced to live a life that no child deserves is not the first priority of the government. According to the statistics, almost 1.8 million people are living below the poverty line, over 842,000 children are suffering food insecurity, lack of nutritious meals, and a healthy happy lifestyle. What’s more disheartening is that almost one out of every three children in Israel goes to bed with a hungry stomach.
Over 53% of children in Jerusalem alone are living in poverty. The cost of living is very high in Israel and especially in Jerusalem, which makes it even more difficult for families to provide for their little ones.
